#ACEATRUCKTALKS – Driving Europe’s mobility transition: the critical role of the ETS2

From 2027, the EU will extend carbon pricing to emissions from fossil fuels used in buildings and road transport through the new Emissions Trading System – ETS2.

This marks an important milestone in bringing together climate policy and industrial and economic competitiveness. By putting a price on carbon, the ETS2 will accelerate the transition to clean technologies. However, its implementation is met with – old and new – questions about its rationale and implications.

Concerns focus on fuel price increases and the burden on low-income households, raising questions about the system’s fairness and feasibility – even with instruments like the Social Climate Fund in place.

This webinar will provide a timely overview of the ETS2 framework and foster an open discussion on its potential to drive decarbonisation in road transport. Key questions are:

  • What role does carbon pricing play in reducing transport emissions?
  • How will ETS2 influence investment decisions and close the total cost of ownership (TCO) gap for zero-emission vehicles?
  • What are experts predicting for the ETS2 carbon price? What stabilisation measures are in place?
  • How can ETS2 revenues be used effectively to support households and SMEs?
  • What are the key risks to implementation, and how can they be overcome?
